William died, about 1851, as it is reported in the 1841 census he was not with Elizabeth and the children but in the 1851 census Elizabeth is recorded as a widow, aged 44 and born in Barrington, Somerset. It has been stated that William CHANT is buried in Odcombe as is his brother Onesiphorus. I have since found that when Alexander married, his father is reported as William CHANT according to the “Digger - South Australian Marriages, Registrations 1842-1916”
