Obituary Mrs. B. Sharpe Passes Away Old and Highly Respected Resident Succumbs to Attack of Heart Failure.
The community was deeply grieved on Monday to learn of the death of Mrs. Barbara Sharpe, which occurred quite suddenly at the residence of her son, Joseph R., where she had made her home since the death of her husband, James, some nine years ago. She retired on Sunday evening in her usual good health, and in fact early Monday morning was apparently in her usual health, but was suddenly seized with heart failure and passed peacefully away at 11:30 am before the physician who was hastily summoned and on his way to the house arrived. The late Mrs. Barbara Sharpe who was in her 86th year was highly respected and much esteemed and her passing will be mourned by a large circle of friends. Born in Chatham, N.B., October 5th, 1838, she moved to Campbellton with her husband in September 1869, and has been a resident of our town ever since, and has enjoyed the respect and esteem of all. The late Mrs. Sharpe was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, and on arrival here, there being no Methodist Church, she set herself about to have one established, and her untiring efforts proved successful, and she was naturally one of the first to become a member of the Campbellton Methodist Church. Her whole life has been devoted to the work of God. She was largely instrumental in the formation of the W.C.T.U. in Campbellton, and was therefore one of this society's chartered members, and in this connection we might point out that at the time of her death was the oldest chartered member in the Campbellton Division of the W.C.T.U. In all good work she took a deep interest. Only some two months ago a meeting of the W.C.T.U. was held at her residence, for the purpose of having her with them. She leaves to mourn the loss of a kind and devoted mother, two sons, Joseph R. of Campbellton and Harvey W. of Quebec to whom the ....sympathy of the community.....in the loss of.....
