WILMINGTON - Cathy Willis of Wilmington, N.Y., formerly of Baie D'Urfe, Quebec, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital in Plattsburgh, N.Y., after a lengthy but brave battle with cancer.
Cathy was born on April 19, 1958, in Montreal, Quebec, the daughter of Dorothy E. (Currel) and the late William (Bill) E. Chant. She graduated from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, in 1980 with a bachelor of arts. From 1980 to 1987, Cathy played, worked and lived in Banff, Alberta, where her love of life, caring and compassionate treatment of others and the high value she put on personal relationships made her many lifelong friends.
She returned to eastern Canada in the late eighties, where she became involved, as executive assistant to the project manager, in the engineering and construction of many major construction projects, including the topside modules for the Hibernia Offshore Oil Platform. Cathy settled in the town of Wilmington, N.Y. She completed her working career as executive assistant to the director of the renowned Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake, N.Y.
Cathy married Kevin T. Willis of Wilmington on Sept. 7, 1991. Cathy and Kevin lived on Quaker Mountain in Wilmington with their two children, Cameron, age 9 and Tyler, age 7.
Cathy is survived by her husband and children; her parents, Dorothy and Arthur Hannah of Montreal; a brother and sister-in-law, Ted and Susan Chant of Aurora, Ontario, and their two children, Katie and Scott. Cathy was predeceased by her father, William Emerson Chant. She will be remembered and missed by many, many loving friends.
Calling hours will be Monday, May 13, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid, N.Y. A celebration of Cathy's life will take place at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002, followed by a short graveside service at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Town Hall, Wilmington, NY 12997 or the FitzPatrick Cancer Center, care of the Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital, will be graciously accepted.
Cathleen married Kevin T. Willis.
