Angus Buie

  General Notes:

Angus immigrated from Scotland in either 1832 or 1834, both dates are in the family bible of Angus and Sarah. According to Jay Blair of Duntroon, Ontario the Buie's lived in Chiquacoust Township, Peel County, north west of Toronto until about 1840 then moved to Nottawasaga Township in Simcoe County.

Angus and Marion were married, had their family and then moved to Campbell Township on Manitoulin Island about 1873 and settled on lot 5, concession 14 and Angus died there 19 February, 1883. Angus was possibly born at Sunderland, Kilchoman Parish, Isaly, as his younger brother, Walter Campbell Buie was born there in 1826 about 3 years later. Walter Campbell Buie is the only Buie of this family found in the church records.

According to the 1871 census (as of 2 April 1871) Angus Buie was a family head and 46 years of age. He was a labourer. His ethnic origin was Scotch and he was born in Scotland. His religion was Church of Scotland/Kirk/Scotch Presbyterian. His census place was Nottawasaga, Simcoe North, Ontario.

According to the 1881 census (as of 4 April 1881) Angus Buie was married and 55 years of age. His ethnic origin was Scottish and he was born in Scotland. He was a farmer and his religion was Presbyterian. His census place was Billings & Campbell, Algoma, Ontario.

Information from Parochial Registers of Baptisms, 1820-1854, Co. of Argyll, Bowmore & Kilarrow Parish #536, Microfilm #1041078. "Buoy, Angus & MacKay, Catherine in Liurbus, Angus, 30 Jul. 1823." The Buie name is spelled wrong (not an uncommon occurance), but the Angus Buie baptised on 30 Jul. 1823 is the Angus Buie who married Marion Sarah Dallas.

Angus married Marion Sarah Dallas, daughter of William Dallas and Christian "Christy" McGrigger, on 27 Nov 1851 in Duntroon, Ontario. (Marion Sarah Dallas was born on 20 Oct 1833 in Canada West, died on 8 Jul 1914 in Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island, Ontario and was buried in Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island, Ontario.)
